Campaign Description:LAANE is currently seeking a full-time Research and Policy Analyst to focus on the nexus of labor, equity, and the environment in our Water and RePower campaigns. We are a proud member of the OurWaterLA Coalition, working with the coalition and labor allies to strengthen and win the County’s Safe, Clean Water Program (Measure W). This program will invest $300 million a year to upgrade our water system and reduce climate impacts in frontline communities. RePower LA is a coalition of environmental justice, community and labor allies, advancing programs putting hundreds of Angelenos to work in good green union jobs and helping the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) transition to renewable energy with programs that benefit low-income communities of color. We have won significant victories investing in clean energy and water infrastructure, good union jobs, and community benefits, and are working to realize the promise of these victories. We also know that for a just transition – one where we confront climate change, empower communities, transform lives with good jobs, and achieve clean and affordable energy and water, more must be done – and deep research is needed.
Position Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Campaign Director, the Research and Policy Analyst will lead research to inform the implementation of our recent victories, and will conduct research to guide the next phases of our work. The ideal candidate would become an expert on climate resilience and equity; the water and power industries and their economics, workforce, and science; dig into workforce development opportunities and the relation of the public and private sectors to these industries and investments. The Research and Policy Analyst will create research memos, reports, and fact sheets that inform campaign strategy, using a combination of data sources, interviews, and public documents. They will represent the campaigns at various coalitions, and connect policy/research work with the campaigns’ organizing and communications staff. Reliable transportation is required.
- Experience and desire to work in advocacy/campaign based research settings:Candidate should have 2-5 years+ experience in community or labor campaign research and/or a graduate degree in public policy, urban planning, environmental studies/health, or a related field.
- Strong skillsin written communication, report writing, familiarity with Westlaw (or similar) and Excel, and quantitative analysis. Comfort and flexibility with working on several research projects simultaneously. Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary.
- Familiaritywith climate investments, water, clean energy, and/or workforce development/labor.

- Working as a leader within a team:Ability to work independently and collectively within a team, possession of strong interpersonal communication skills.
Terms of employment:LAANE’s salary and benefit standards are competitive, with a salary range of $48,000-60,000, depending on experience.
