U.S. Labor Delegation to Vietnam 2016: Building Solidarity and Friendship

In January 2016, a 13 member labor delegation visited Vietnam to help build a lasting relationship between Vietnamese and U.S. unions and labor educators. The group visited with the Vietnamese General Confederation of Labor, two labor universities, the Vietnam Women's Academy, factories and local unions. The group connected with four U.S. labor educators who have been teaching labor relations in Vietnam through an exchange arranged by delegation leader, Kent Wong, Director of the UCLA Labor Center. The delegation participated in the first ever joint U.S./Vietnamese seminar and dialog on trade and the TPP at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City. More exchanges and trips are planned.



Crossing the Border to Cananea, 2011

Video documenting a delegation of labor educators and students from across the United States who went to Cananea, Sonora, Mexico to learn about a strike of members of the National Union of Mine, Metal and Steel Workers against multi-national corporate giant Grupo Mexico. The strikers occupied the largest copper mine in Mexico for three years until Mexican police and federal troops used force to expel them and break the strike in June of 2011. The video includes a footage of the occupied mine, interviews with striking members and leaders of "Los Mineros," as well as public officials and supporters.
