The 2017 UALE conference schedule is chock full of interesting sessions and activities!
The fun starts with a Detroit Labor History tour (via bus or walking) that will leave the hotel at 9:00 a.m. on Weds, April 5th. You can sign up for the tour as part of your conference registration.
The conference will officially open at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon with the first of three plenary sessions. The Weds plenary will focused on the Detroit region. The second and third plenaries will focus on worker organizing across the globe, and labor education in an anti-union environment.
We will be offering 35 hour-and-three-quarter concurrent sessions. More than a dozen of them will be teaching demonstrations on topics ranging from Participant Research on Global Economic Policies, to Introduction to Popular Education Techniques, to techniques for using the Labor Notes book, Secrets of a Successful Organizer.
More than a dozen panel sessions are also part of the conference. Topics range from Labor Rights and Worker Organizing in the Global Seafood Supply Sector to Bargaining for the Common Good to Voting in Mid-west Battleground States.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in round table discussions, join in meetings of UALE’s eight Working Groups, attend UALE-sponsored luncheons hosted by the Women Workers’ Caucus and the Workers of Color Caucus, and more!
We hope to bring you cultural activities during each of the three nights of the conference (Weds, Thurs & Fri) that may include theatrical performances by Detroit-based artists and film showings recommended by the UALE Labor Film Documentaries Working Group.
And, of course, what UALE conference would be complete without the Regional Meetings and the annual Membership meeting!
We will wrap up with our Annual Awards Banquet. For the first time in several years we will be giving the New Generation Award. Come to the conference to see the presentations by our award finalists!
Early bird registration is currently open and will run through February 28th. You can re-new your membership as part of that at a reduced rate! Online registration will then continue through March 15th, but you can still register on-site at the conference itself.
In the current political environment, developing our Labor Education Community is more important than ever. There is no other opportunity like the UALE conference to engage in this important work. Register today!
