The University of Cincinnati Chapter of the American Association of University Professors invites applications for a new staff position (title to be determined). The UC-AAUP Chapter was founded in 1945 and has engaged in collective bargaining since 1975. The Chapter is the collective bargaining agent for 1,750 faculty members across all campuses of the University.
The Chapter’s Executive Council is seeking an energetic, creative problem-solver with excellent interpersonal skills who enjoys working in a setting with diverse responsibilities. Chapter staff members report directly to the Executive Director. Candidates should have experience in a union or higher education setting in one or more of the following areas: shared governance, mediation and conflict resolution, contract education, contract compliance, or grievance case analysis and management.
We seek candidates who are committed to academic freedom principles and who are aware of AAUP and collective bargaining issues and practices. A post-baccalaureate degree is preferred, but not required. Excellent writing skills are required. Experience with legislative issues, membership development, or media relations is a strong complementary asset.
Chapter staff members work with a large, diverse faculty on a wide variety of issues. This work includes answering questions on contract interpretation and possible contract violations; assisting faculty in formal grievance procedures, when necessary; designing and delivering position papers and labor education workshops on a variety of topics; research on academic bargaining and academic freedom issues; interaction with administration counterparts; and interaction with other union representatives locally, throughout Ohio, and across the nation. Additional duties will depend on the background and qualifications of the candidate selected.

Indiana University School of Social Work Labor Studies Program Tenure Track Faculty Position Northwest Campus
The Labor Studies Program at Indiana University is one of the leading university labor education programs in North America and is administered by the School of Social Work. Position Description
The School of Labor and Employment Relations invites applications and nominations for the full-time position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Labor and Employment Relations, assigned to the Labor Education Program. This is both an extension education program and an online undergraduate education program. LEP offers 80-100 programs and classes annually that enroll as many as 3,000 union leaders and others and are taught at locations throughout Illinois; and offers over 70 online sections a year enrolling 2,000 undergraduate students. The successful candidate will pursue a career of research in areas relevant to the labor movement, teach off-campus extension classes, and develop and teach on-line educational offerings to university undergraduates and labor union members throughout the State of Illinois. This position is based on the University of Illinois-Chicago campus. Experience working with under-represented communities and Spanish language skills is valued. Considerable travel around the state is required; although some travel may be replaced by on-line teaching.
This is a three-year visiting position, with a twelve-month appointment. Due to budget constraints the position is advertised as visiting, but the School hopes to convert the appointment to a tenure track position in the Labor Education Program as resources permit. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated potential for generating research publications at a standard of excellence appropriate for tenure at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a terminal degree (PhD preferred) in an appropriate social science discipline or professional area of study (e.g., JD). Experience in on-line teaching is valued.

Hans Boeckler Doctoral Fellowship
The Hans Boeckler Foundation (HBS) is pleased to announce the Hans Boeckler Doctoral Fellowship for 2010-2011. In March a committee will award one fellowship. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2010.
PURPOSE
These residential fellowships will be awarded to graduate students engaged in dissertation projects related to the Foundations research and policy consulting program and to the on-going work of its researchers. During their tenure fellows are expected to be in residence in Duesseldorf and to participate actively in the intellectual life of the Foundation.
The Hans-Boeckler-Foundation of the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) promotes codetermination as a principle for designing a democratic society. The HBS provides consulting services and training for elected representatives of works councils, staff councils and supervisory board representatives but also provides funding for some 2,000 university students. An important aspect of the Foundation’s work is related to academic research in various fields of study. Besides providing funding for external research, the HBS also maintains two own research institutes, the Institute for Economic and Social Research (WSI) and the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK). Research projects cover a broad range of issues and fields of study. Among other aspects, research topics include welfare state development, co-determination, macroeconomics and European economic coordination, working time policy, collective bargaining, work organization, labor market regulation, gender studies, regional economic development, and the distribution of wealth and income. ELIGIBILITY AND TERMS OF THE FELLOWSHIP
Doctoral Candidates are eligible to apply if they have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. but the dissertation. The fellowship is available for non-German nationals.
Fellows may spend between six and twelve months in residence at the HBS for field research or theoretical work. Grants will normally begin by July 2010; however, individual arrangements are possible. The fellowship provides a stipend of 1150 Euro per month. In addition, the HBS will pay one economy class round trip from your location to Duesseldorf. Within limits of its possibilities the Foundation will also contribute to the costs for travel for field research within Germany.

The Director of Academic Support Services reports to the center dean and is responsible for managing and providing effective academic skills assessment and support in the areas of college reading and writing, quantitative skills, information literacy, critical thinking, independent learning, time management and study skills. The Director works closely with the Office of Academic Affairs and the college-wide team of academic services directors to design resources and delivery of programs. The Director also works closely with the center dean, student services professional staff and faculty in developing and managing programs and services, and using college technology resources to support and track, the delivery of services and their outcomes. Specific responsibilities are: 1. Coordinate academic skills assessments for all entering and continuing students. 2. Develop and coordinate the center’s academic skills support services. 3. Assess program effectiveness. 4. Serve as center liaison to the Office of Academic Affairs and contribute to the development of the college’s student learning outcomes assessment and quality review initiatives. 5. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree required. Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate preferred. Experience with innovative academic programs for adult learners and trade unionists strongly preferred. The Department plans to establish a Center on Labor Rights in a Global Economy and welcomes applications from qualified candidates to serve as the Center’s first director. Rutgers University School of Management and Labor Relations, Department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations, is reopening its search for a position leading our labor extension programs. The successful candidate will have significant experience developing and teaching in labor education programs, especially programs targeted at a leadership level. We are interested in someone who is energetic and can reshape and lead our Union Leadership Academy, design custom programs with particular unions and develop a senior level program for union leaders. The candidate must be able to work closely with other Department faculty to identify and pursue new opportunities including grants and other external sources of funding. This faculty member would also be expected to contribute to the undergraduate teaching mission of the department. This position will be a senior extension faculty position (Associate Extension Specialist or Extension Specialist) with tenure possible for suitably qualified candidates. A strong record of extension scholarship is required for tenure. The Labor Studies Program at Indiana University is one of the leading university labor education programs in North America and is administered by the School of Social Work.
