The department’s purpose is to provide training programs designed to support the union’s work at the local, regional and national level. Department staff develop quality, innovative curricula and motivate union members to take greater control of their working lives by creating a stronger, more effective union.
The department provides a wide range of training, including officer, steward, contract campaign and organizing. The department also provides training programs for union staff and leadership.

The William W. Winpinsinger Education and Technology Center is the Labor Education Center for the IAMAW. It’s purpose is to meet the complete range of educational needs of IAM members and to provide an atmosphere where members can learn undisturbed by daily demands of the workplace. In addition, training is conducted at their Local Lodges by Educational Representatives assigned to regional territories. To this end the program covers a diverse range of training to ensure that IAM members, officers, and staff are prepared to serve their fellow members

The USWA Education Department provides education and information to local union activists and field staff representatives. The primary object is to develop education programs and materials for the membership which build a foundation for the power and strength of the United Steelworkers of America. Every union function -- organizing, political action, collective bargaining, grievance and arbitration, safety and health -- requires knowledge and skill. The international conducts education sessions at the union’s Education Center, Linden Hall in Dawson, PA. Every USWA district and division has an extensive education program including conferences, seminars, summer institutes and regional conferences.
